The sergeant found it and asked Art what he was going to do with it. "Eat it!" said Art. "Well, eat it you will!" said the Sarge (or something like that) and I believe he gave Art a deadline to finish that whole case of SPAM. Well, Art ate and ate and went thru that case of SPAM, and in the process of doing so, "Fried SPAM" was mentioned. Somehow, that whetted my appetite, and I went out and bought one TIN of SPAM -- cut a slice or two and fried it - noting that it sort of slid around in the pan on its own power -- (i.e., NO grease or shortening was needed). Eventualy I finished the tin, and felt like my innards were sliding around for a few days afterwards. Was the SPAM good? YES!! Was it cloying? YES! Would I buy it and fry it again? So many uses: fry it, bake it, use it in salads, pastas, casseroles, omelets, etc. Quick to cook. It is a little on the salty side. Buying it by the case was cost effective, much cheaper than at a local store. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful: great for storing rations, This review is from: SPAM Classic, 12-Ounce Cans (Pack of 6 ) (Grocery) This is top notch survival food. I bought a bunch of cans today, and they'll last until 2014 (long after armageddon). If you are concerned about rising food prices, or things hitting the fan, get 20 or 30 cans of this and store it away, just for peace of mind. It tastes great and is also a great bachelor lifestyle quick type food to make. Sure I usually go out to eat or order pizza as a single guy, but nothing beats slicing and frying a few slices of spam and eating that with ramen during the hard times when it's time to pay the car insurance or something. Prices of SPAM have gone up considerably since 2008, there's a reason why. It's a proven storable food, it makes great field rations, and is great tasting (a friend recommended grilled cheese and spam sandwiches, I have to try that). |
